Castle traces back to Charles Glass and his Castle Brewery in Johannesburg, and its success led to South African Breweries being founded in 1895. It is brewed with barley from Caledon, maize from the Free State and hops from George. Now part of AB InBev, Castle is the long-time sponsor of Bafana Bafana.
