The story
Kakira is a rum brand from Kakira, Uganda, founded in 1930.
Kakira Distillery sits beside the Kakira Sugar Works at Jinja in Uganda, near Lake Victoria and the source of the River Nile. The sugar works has been run by the same family for more than 70 years. Every Kakira spirit starts with pure sugar cane alcohol from the estate, and the gin's botanicals are grown there too, all except the juniper. The range of rums, gin and vodka took seven years to develop with a master blender, and picked up medals at the European Spirits Challenge in 2022.
