Spaten is a lager brand from Munich, Germany.
Spaten's Munich roots go back to 1397, and the brewery took off after the Sedlmayr family bought it in 1807. In 1894 it brewed its Münchner Hell, often credited as the first helles lager, the style that now defines Munich drinking. Spaten is one of the six breweries allowed to pour at Oktoberfest and is now part of AB InBev.
